One of the standout dishes is the Empress Chicken with Scallion Sauce, which has garnered rave reviews for its flavorful and tender chicken. The Hakka Lion Head Meatballs, though often recommended, have been a hit with many guests for their tender texture and savory flavor.
Despite its historical roots in Canton and Guangxi, Hakka Cuisine brings a distinctive approach to traditional dishes. While some guests feel the offerings lean more toward Cantonese flavors, the quality remains top-notch. The restaurant's braised pork belly with preserved vegetables stands out for its tender meat and flavorful pairing with the vegetables. Similarly, the house special lamb pot with tofu skin is a satisfying option, with rich, savory flavors complemented by a tender, melt-in-your-mouth lamb.
For those seeking more authentic Hakka cuisine, dishes like Hakka stuffed trio-stuffed pepper, bitter melon, and eggplant-offer a unique experience. Although some of the dishes might be a bit oily, many appreciate the balance of flavors. The hand-shredded salt-baked chicken, although not truly "salt-baked" in the traditional sense, offers a tender and delicious chicken marinated in seasonings that bring a comforting yet unique taste to the plate.
Hakka Cuisine has earned its place as a go-to spot for Chinese food enthusiasts, with a focus on delivering flavorsome dishes in generous portions. Whether you're a fan of Hakka-style braised pork, tofu stuffed with minced pork, or lamb dishes, this restaurant promises a satisfying meal that’s well worth the visit.
Hakka Cuisine Reviews
This restaurant always seemed to be pretty busy whenever I was in the shopping plaza eating next door. There were always people going in and out during lunch time, so I finally decided to give them a try and get take out for dinner. I ordered through their website and was able to scroll through every menu item and see a picture of the food. I ended up ordering their Hakka braised pork belly and House Special Lamb Pot with Tofu Skin. I was able to get 5% off my first order, which came out to be about $44 for two dishes. When I went to pick up the order, they had a ton of other take out orders ready to go. We had to wait an extra 15 minutes for our order (about 45 minutes total). It was packaged really well to prevent spilling and the food was still piping hot by the time I got home. Their portions are pretty generous and the quality of the meats were really good. The pork belly was very tender and basically melted in my mouth with every bite. The lamb too chewy and slid off the bone. I really liked the tofu skin in the dish and enjoyed the sauce they used. The lamb dish was a little more oily than I anticipated, so I did have to scrape some of it off before reheating the leftovers. I will definitely be back and am excited to try other dishes on their menu, like the Hakka Stuffed Trio and the Hakka Lion Meatballs.
It's a relatively unique restaurant, Hakka historically is one the poorest region in Canton/Guangxi and thus not known for its cuisines. The food here was more Cantonese than Hakka, but it was still very good, we ate there twice recently. Most of the food were served on paper plates as part of COVID precaution. Braised pork with preserve veggie: one of our fav comfort food, the version here was very good. Pork was half lean meat and half fat, tender and succulent, the preserve veggie was delish Hand-shredded salt baked chicken: it's actually just boiled chicken that's marinated afterwards with seasoning powder that you can find in Ranch 99, add a little bit of light soy sauce & sesame oil, vola. The chicken itself though was very good: tender and not overcooked, skin was silky. I have not found any real "salt-baked" chicken in the US, it's too time consuming and requires a master Cantonese chef, last time I had it was in Guangzhou and Shunde. if anyone knows of any real "salt-baked" chicken in the Bay Area, please hook this brother up.... Hakka Trio (stuffed or 酿 pepper/bitter melon/eggplant): 5/5 for originality but 3/5 for execution. The whole dish was too mushy with too much gooey sauce. The original version should be pan-seared, then just a little bit of sauce drizzled on top. Hakka pan fried tofu stuffed with minced pork: it was excellent. Good tofu and the sauce was not overpowering, it's probably the least oily and least fatty dish we had there. Eggplant with pork: it was acceptable, a bit too oily for me, tgen again thats how they create that buttery creamy texture We tried to order the Chicken ginseng soup on the menu but they only offered that "5 point soup" which I never heard of. We tried it and it tasted a little strange for me, albeit sweet. It must have been that weird root. Overall the food was descent, a bit too oily but nothing compared to the Hunan or Sichuan restaurants. Price slightly higher than the average casual Chinese dining. If Hong Xiuquan and his Hakkanese posse ate this well, there won't have been any Taiping Rebellion in 1850.
Hakka Cuisine is a well regarded South Chinese specialty with unique characteristics. was tempted to try the pork belly or chicken but didn't. offerings: rice & noodles, proteins, vegetarian, specials, lunch specials. eats: beef chow fun (12.99) -has an overwhelming amount of rice noodles & onions, has many semi-tender, tasty beef slices. also green onions, carrots & cabbage -has good "wok hay" stir fry technique but flavor is too sodium-centric, little other flavors.
Ordered delivery via Chowbus because we were bored of usual places. Wow the pan fried lotus w pork may be our new favorite thing! Also delicious: Stir fried vermicelli, celery, squid pork stir fry & pork stuffed eggplant/bitter melon/bell pepper Really fresh tasting & satisfying- Will be back for more.
Came back with a friend because I just couldn't get enough of the empress chicken with scallion sauce and my husband loved their pork tripe chicken soup. Today we ordered our two favorite dishes, fried pork intestine, Hakka Stir Fry, and lion head meatball. We wanted to braised pork with preserved vegetables but it was sold out, along with their pork belly and pork feet (we were very sad). All of the food was amazing and packed with flavors just like how I remembered it a few weeks back. At the end of it, the servers even helped us pack our leftover food, which I really appreciate because I'm clumsy. I got to chat with her a bit and she confirmed that their last day will be May 29th. I'm very sad to hear this because this was one of my recent favorite restaurant. I asked if they will be opening a location somewhere else and at this time it doesn't seem likely. Truly sad to see them close but highly recommend everyone to go here before May 29th to enjoy the amazing food they put out!
